Very interesting. Now ... why they do not do carbon dated to the colisseum ? ( Sorry, I was joking). My question is who can I ask some information about a bronce sculture I founded years ago?. Thank you

Well I guess that the pope can't stand the idea that Jesus was man.

But my compliments for Corinne Diserens, the director of the Museion.

i like this very much. i really like the idea of a secret, quiet whisper on the internet about moments of art that break into the routine.

and public art yo! it's great to see that not everything is pasted on clean white walls.

'respect.

Hi Lucas,
Guess what ? I own that book. In fact I ended up buying the tatty old display copy as all the rest were sold out (new ones now in stock I believe). I must say it is a fascinating read and you are right, it is much better placed outside the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art. One thing to note, however, notice how many ":do not park" signs surround the sculpture now. When it was in the park it was not only used as a homeless shelter but also somewhere to park the car. The other fascinating thing was, when it was removed from the City Square people began to miss it ! Humans are so fickle !

There is a good book about the history of Ron Robertson-Swann's Vault (aka the Yellow Peril):

Wallis, Geoffrey J. Peril in the square. Melbourne: Indra, 2004 - 2006

It's an interesting read, it goes through all the politics of the sculpture. Aesthetics and politics often seem to clash in public sculpture, eh!

The sculpture, in my opinion, is actually quite a stunning architectural folly, and is much happier in its new home outside the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art.

Hi there Tanya. I am at tenterhooks too, waiting for news. I have not heard that the plans are any different from before - ie, we are still looking at the fremantle fishing boat harbour as the location. It should be installed in the next month, by my latest information. I have an almost-direct line from those in the know, and I will be making any announcements as they come in on my blog!
Cheers

There is also a statue in Japan (at Shibuya station, I think? ) of a faithful dog named Hachikō . Evidently, the Akita dog would walk to the station every day to greet his master. One day the man failed to return, so the dog stayed. His owner had died, but the faithful dog returned each day to wait for his master. For ten years the dog continued to go to the station at the same time each day. The station master even had a special place for the dog to rest. Hachikō became a national celebrity after news of the faithful dog's story reached the media. When he died, a statue was erected in his honor, but during the war they melted it down for the war effort. A new one was later erected in the late 1940's.
